Hurricane Marco was downgraded to a tropical depression before briefly making landfall in Louisiana and dissipating. Although Marco no longer poses a threat to the TFPA coverage areas, Hurricane Laura has entered the Gulf of Mexico and continues to strengthen.
A TFPA moratorium on accepting new and increased coverage applications went into effect at 11:30 a.m. on Sunday, August 23, 2020 for the following Texas counties:
- Angelina, Aransas, Austin, Bowie, Brazoria, Calhoun, Cameron, Camp, Cass, Chambers, Colorado, Fort Bend, Galveston, Gregg, Grimes, Hardin, Harris, Harrison, Jasper, Jefferson, Kenedy, Kleburg, Liberty, Marion, Matagorda, Montgomery, Morris, Nacogdoches, Newton, Nueces, Orange, Panola, Polk, Refugio, Rusk, Sabine, San Augustine, San Jacinto, San Patricio, Shelby, Titus, Trinity, Tyler, Upshur, Walker, Waller, Washington, Wharton, and Willacy.
Effective 7:15 a.m. on Tuesday, August 25, 2020, the moratorium now includes the following Texas counties:
- Anderson, Angelina, Aransas, Austin, Bastrop, Bee, Bell, Bowie, Brazoria, Brazos, Burleson, Caldwell, Calhoun, Cameron, Camp, Cass, Chambers, Cherokee, Collin, Colorado, Dallas, Delta, DeWitt, Ellis, Falls, Fannin, Fayette, Fort Bend, Franklin, Freestone, Galveston, Goliad, Gonzales, Gregg, Grimes, Guadalupe, Hardin, Harris, Harrison, Hays, Henderson, Hill, Hopkins, Houston, Hunt, Jackson, Jasper, Jefferson, Johnson, Karnes, Kaufman, Kenedy, Kleburg, Lamar, Lavaca, Lee, Leon, Liberty, Limestone, Madison, Marion, Matagorda, McLennan, Milam, Montgomery, Morris, Nacogdoches, Navarro, Newton, Nueces, Orange, Panola, Polk, Rains, Red River, Refugio, Robertson, Rockwall, Rusk, Sabine, San Augustine, San Jacinto, San Patricio, Shelby, Smith, Tarrant, Titus, Travis, Trinity, Tyler, Upshur, Van Zandt, Victoria, Walker, Waller, Washington, Wharton, Willacy, Williamson, Wilson, and Wood.
This moratorium will remain in effect until Laura is no longer deemed a threat to coverage areas. Applications that were submitted prior to their county’s moratorium will be processed according to normal underwriting rules.
