TFPA is implementing changes to deductible options for homeowners’ policies. These changes were approved by the Texas Department of Insurance (TDI), following a vote by the TFPA Governing Committee.
Deductible Options
On or after July 1, 2026:
- The 1% wind and hail deductible option is being eliminated for TFPA homeowners’ policies.
- Note:All current homeowner’s policies with a 1% wind and hail deductible will automatically change to 2% at policy renewal.
- Separate (split) deductibles for wind and hail and all other perils will be permitted.
Available deductible options:
- Wind and Hail 2%, 3%, 4%, and 5%.
- All Other Perils 1%, 2%, 3%, 4%, and 5%.
Deductibles cannot be changed on policies currently in-force.
Policyholder Communication
This letter will be mailed this week to policyholders with in-force homeowner’s policies to inform them of the changes to deductible options. A separate Notice of TFPA Deductible Option Changes will be included in their renewal offer packet and policy packet. Both communications encourage policyholders to contact their agent with questions or to discuss their coverage needs.
